Point of sale systems for coffee shops and cafes in Arkansas
The rush is won in taps and lost in scrolling. Espresso modifiers, card tipping, loyalty and order ahead, for Arkansas cafes.

Your morning line settles this on one thing: how many taps it takes to ring a drink with three modifiers stacked on it. SkyTab and Clover both get there when the modifier build is done right. Loyalty and tipping are where the two split, and where neither one matches what a national chain app puts in your guest's pocket.
How do I build modifiers so the bar doesn't slow down?
Drink first. Then size, then milk, then everything else. Size and milk are required choices, because your barista can't start without both, and they belong on the same screen as the drink button, not behind a category tap. Syrups, shots and temperature go on a second screen most orders never see.
The build we keep finding in Arkansas cafes is one button per drink and size combination. Hundreds of buttons. A barista scrolling while the line builds. One drink, one button, sizes as a modifier, and the register stops being the slow part of the bar.

What does the tip screen cost me?
Seconds on every transaction, and a little goodwill with the regular who reads that prompt while you're already steaming the milk. Any dealer who calls the tip prompt free is selling you something. SkyTab and Clover both put it on the customer facing screen with presets you control, and both let you shut it off.
Neither varies the prompt with any intelligence. A single drip coffee and a four drink order get the same ask, and changing behavior by daypart means somebody going into settings. You pick a configuration and you live with it. Keep this in view while you shop, though: a cafe ticket is small, so the flat per swipe piece of a processing rate eats a bigger share of it than it ever would at a steakhouse. Pull one month of statements, put total fees over total card volume, and compare that percentage between quotes. Reps will point you at a headline rate instead.
Will the built in loyalty program hold a regular?
For a neighborhood shop, usually. Both platforms track visits or spend and drop the reward on automatically when the guest pays with the same card. The guest does nothing. Doing nothing is the only loyalty behavior you can count on.
What you don't get is a branded app with stored value and reload, order ahead and rewards in one place. Your guests were trained on that by the big chains, and neither SkyTab nor Clover comes close to it. Clover's loyalty is a paid app on top of the base plan, so the base price on the quote is not the number you'll pay.
A real person calls you back within two hours, Monday to Saturday, 8am to 7pm Central.
Can I take order ahead without wrecking the bar?
First party online ordering handles pickup on both platforms, and those tickets land on the same bar as walk in orders. Right structure. The gap is throttling. Neither platform gives you fine control over how many order ahead drinks can drop into the same five minute window during a rush.
Slow Tuesday, no problem. A Saturday in Fayetteville or Bentonville with a line to the door and pickup tickets stacking behind a full bar is an operations problem, and you will solve it with staffing, not software.

How many registers does a small cafe really need?
Most Arkansas cafes run one register with a customer facing screen and add a handheld if there's patio seating or a second service point. A second full register earns its keep the day two people take orders at once during the rush. Not before. Hardware sitting idle is a monthly bill with nothing behind it.
What these two do well behind a bar, and where they quit
Both are quick at the counter. Both stop well short of the app experience your guests know from the chains.
What works
- A modifier flow built right rings a three modifier drink in a few taps.
- The customer facing screen handles card tipping with presets you set yourself.
- Card linked loyalty applies on its own, with nothing for the guest to open or scan.
- Small footprint hardware fits a counter with no room to spare.
What does not
- Tip prompts can't change by daypart or order size. Somebody has to go into settings and change them by hand.
- No branded app with stored value, reload and order ahead in one place. Your guests expect one, and neither platform has it.
- Clover loyalty is a paid add on. The base plan price on the quote is not your real monthly cost.
- Nothing throttles order ahead volume, so a rush stacks pickup tickets behind a bar that's already buried.
- Neither talks to espresso equipment, grinders or scales. Shot counts and waste stay outside the system entirely.
Questions restaurant owners ask
Can I turn the tip prompt off?
Yes, on both platforms, and you can change the preset percentages or switch to fixed dollar amounts. Some Arkansas shops only prompt above a certain order size and handle it as a register policy. Your call. We'll set it either way and we won't argue with you about it.
How do charged tips reach my baristas?
The point of sale records charged tips by employee and by shift, and the report exports for payroll. Splitting a pooled house is still a calculation you run outside the system, because neither platform includes a full pooling engine. Arkansas tip pooling rules apply here, so read our Arkansas page before you write the policy.
What happens if the internet drops in the middle of the rush?
Orders keep running over the local network and cards go into offline capture, up to a cap on the total held. Declines show up after the guest has walked out with the drink. A cafe ticket is small, so your exposure is smaller than a steakhouse's, and the cap still matters. We set it with you.
Can I sell retail bags of beans and merchandise on the same system?
Yes. Retail items live alongside drinks with their own tax treatment, since packaged goods and prepared food are not always taxed the same way in Arkansas. Basic inventory counts work on both platforms. Neither is a serious retail inventory system, so if you roast and wholesale, keep a separate tool for that.
Who shows up to install it?
We do, in person, in your shop. Judd Alsup leads the Arkansas team. We program your menu for you, so install day is mounting, cabling, testing and training instead of data entry. We're there on go live morning, which in a cafe means before the first pot goes on.
